Specialty Dance Classes

Introduction to Dance (Age 2):  This introductory class for our youngest dancers is currently only offered in the summer dance sessions.  Our newest students will learn the basics of balance, begin to create rhythms and develop a brief understanding of dance and how dance classes are held.  We hold our two-year olds to a very specific routine and schedule to slowly move them into our 3-4 year combo class.  Creative movement is also encouraged at the end of every class to help instill their own creativity.  Performing Hearts Dance Studio may, at some point, make this class a sectioned year-round class.

Hip Hop 1 (7-8 years):  Hip-Hop and rhythm basics are focused on, using popular songs in class.  Attitude and personal style and talked about and choreography is at a basic hip-hop level to introduce new students to this popular genre of dance.  No dance shoes are technically required, but we do like to see jazz shoes or clean street shoes worn in class for support.  No ballet or combination class required prior to taking this class, but another technique-based class is always encouraged.  45 minutes

Hip Hop 2 (9-10 years):  More in depth, quick movements are focused on as choreography becomes more “street” and less technique-based in the second level.  Dancers are taught beyond the basic hip-hop knowledge and many times asked to contribute to choreography to help them understand the difference between hip-hop and combination classes.  No ballet or combination class required prior to taking this class, but another technique-based class is always encouraged.  45 minutes

Hip Hop 3 (11-14 years):  Continuation of Hip Hop 1 & 2 with more intricate movements and tricks.   45 minutes

Teen classes (15+):  Our teen classes are offered as non-combination classes due to the fact that many of our dancers have chosen a specific genre to excel in.  While Performing Hearts encourages students to continue with all genres through their time with our studio, we offer separate classes in lyrical/modern, tap, jazz and hip-hop for our teens.  Performance level should be at its highest by now and knowledge of technique and body placement has been mastered to a given degree.  We expect our teen dancers to assist in younger level classes, where asked, especially during productions.  One to two dances are created in each individual class for teens and are used once again to open and close our shows because of entertainment value and overall performance quality.  **See Teen Classes in Combination Dance Class Page** One hour

Company class (7-teen):  NEW!!!  Three age groups (7-8 yr, 9-10 yr and 11-14 yr) in addition to our teen classes have been created for those dancers who would like to take their dancing to the next level.  These technique classes will focus on footwork, floor work and conditioning of the body to strengthen a dancer’s core.  Much of the work done in class will take place across the floor (kicks, turns, leaps, etc.) and will have more one-on-one adjustments and critiques by both Cally & Ally.  This class is not to represent a sole choice by dancer, but rather an additional class to a combo or specialty; dancers will become ‘Company Dancers’ for Performing Hearts and partake in production numbers and performances outside of the studio.    Class times vary.

(A Performing Hearts Dancer jacket will be required by all technique/company dancers.  This class must be taken with a combination class.  NOTE: this class is NOT easy, it requires much time and commitment from dancers in class and at rehearsals.)

Leaps & Turns Technique (10+):  A ‘master’ class which focuses on core strengthening and overall technique needed for proper leaps and turns.  Focuses include (but are not limited to): pirouettes, fouette turns, jetes, split leaps, switch leaps and more.  Please inquire about this class for your dancer before enrolling, student must be approved.  One hour

Tap Technique (10+): A ‘master’ class focusing on rhythms, sounds and specialty steps for advancing tappers.  Inspiration from hoofers, soft shoe and more popular tap techniques will be taught.  Please inquire about this class for your dancer before enrolling, student must be approved.  One hour
